Balloon Gastric Procedure and All to know about it

Based on some statistics issued by the World Health Organization, the number of obese people around the world is increasing day by day. In other words, the number has tripled since 1975, and more than 39% of adults suffer from being overweight. However, to encounter this health issue, some people exercise or follow a healthy diet as away to control their weight. Still, this does not work in all cases resulting in having some medical procedures that are constantly developing. Balloon gastric procedure is one of the most popular procedures used to control excess weight, along with being performed to treat many patients, ending with achieving satisfactory results.

How is It Performed?

Stomach balloon procedure depends mainly on the use of a stomach balloon, which is a safe, inflatable device that is inserted through a thin tube from the mouth to the stomach. Next, an endoscope, a flexible tube that ends with a camera, is used to examine the balloon clearly that is later filled with saline.  Moreover, the stomach balloon size depends on the patient’s weight and overall body mass.

Balloon gastric takes about half an hour or more, and the patient can return home after an hour or two of the surgery time. The advantage of having a weight loss balloon procedure is that it limits the amount of food the stomach can carry creating an early feeling of fullness and satiety. Consequently, eating less food leads to gradual weight loss. It is also worth noting that the balloon is removed by using an endoscope after six months or more resulting in losing a few kilograms of the patient’s weight, so the body looks thinner.

Results and Complications of Balloon Gastric Procedure

Medical studies have shown that the percentage of weight loss among people having undergone stomach balloon surgery ranged from11% to 15% of their total body weight within 6 months. Furthermore, temporary nausea and abdominal pain are clear symptoms of this procedure, which can be controlled by taking prescribed medications.

Despite being useful, balloon gastric procedure , along with its results, creates concerns to some people due to the widespread of false information across the internet in this regard. Therefore, make sure that you check trustworthy websites or consult professional doctors. It is also worth noting that Healing Clinic doctors are always ready to provide you with the best assistance until achieving the expected results of intragastric balloon surgery without suffering from surgical complications.
