Dentoalveolar Abscess and Everything about it

Dentists recommend people to improve their Dental hygiene and look after their teeth regularly through brushing and the use of mouthwashes, along with having periodic checkup and blushing of the teeth professionally by a dentist every six months, all of this should be done to protect the teeth from decay due to the fact that lack of oral treatment in a timely manner will result in having dental abscess that ends up with the tooth extraction. In this article dentoalveolar abscess and dental abscess treatment will be discussed in the following article.

Causes of Dentoalveolar Abscess

The term “dental abscess” refers to a pocket of pus in a tooth caused by a bacterial infection. It is also divided into two types: periapical abscess which is a collection of pus at the root of a tooth that is caused by an infection affecting the pulp area that contains nerves and blood vessels, and the other type is periodontal abscess which is also a pocket of pus in the tissues of the gum as a result of having spaces between the teeth causing the gum to pull away from the teeth allowing bacteria to grow.

Dentoalveolar Abscess and Tooth Abscess Treatment

Dental periapical and periodontal abscess treatment can be performed by several procedures and methods:
1.The use of antibiotics to treat infection, especially for people with weak immune systems.
2.Removing oral abscess or pus, along with cleaning and sterilizing the infected teeth.
3.Endodontic treatment of the pulp .i.e. cleaning the root canal and filling it to preserve the tooth without the need for extraction.

Dental Wedges

A basic procedure in restorative dentistry whose goal is to have teeth symmetry. It is performed by reconstructing the tooth by placing a metal wedge inside the root canal after treating it so that the wedges support the crown that is added to the tooth to strengthen and protect it from fracture.

Tooth Extraction

Abscess under tooth can also be treated by the extraction of the tooth. Abscess causes tooth infection pain that extends to include swelling of the jaw and face. It also causes pain in the ear, neck and head, and swelling of the lymph nodes, which causes difficulty chewing, swallowing, breathing, and experiencing high temperature causing infection to all internal organs of the body.
